Show Highlights

Confidence in yourself and your abilities is essential to personal and professional success. Not to be confused with an inflated sense of self—believe it or not—most know-it-all personality types have the worst self-confidence. True confidence aids us in being assertive and decisive but also fuels us never to stop growing, which are all integral to a successful career.

Key Questions/Topics Covered

Concentrate on your strengths to boost your confidence

If you find yourself struggling with building your confidence, it’s time to take a moment and reflect on what you are good at. Sit down and take note of your strengths. It’s very easy to get hung up on our weaknesses or compare ourselves to others, but these practices are confidence killers and must be avoided at all costs. Being self-aware and balanced in our viewpoint allows you to celebrate your abilities resulting in that much-needed boost of confidence.

The need for continued education

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a discussion and realized you have no clue what anyone is talking about? Unfortunately, this can result when we fall into the trap of believing that we have learned everything there is to know in our career field, so we stop seeking new information. If the last three years have taught us anything, it’s that our industry can—and has—drastically changed. By not continuing to seek out education or even ensuring that we give ourselves frequent refresher courses, you will become stagnant, as will your confidence.

Patience is an essential part of confidence

Confidence is not built overnight. Confidence comes with life application. As you increase your education and gain more experience, the greater your confidence will grow, but this takes time which requires patience. Nobody can know everything all at once. Be reasonable in your expectations. Setting both short and long-term goals can aid with this.

Overall positivity, continued education, and patience are cornerstones to building your confidence in property management. View each one as a stepping stone and continue to build your path.
